The Joy of Heaven exists to inspire a living consciousness of Heaven within the Church and throughout the world—guiding souls to live their faith with integrity, courage, and love so as to reach their eternal destiny.
Uniting teaching, devotion, and connection, the Joy of Heaven offers formation, spiritual resources, and pathways of grace that strengthen conscience and awaken believers to live Heaven now—to pray, think, and act as citizens of eternity, shaping a Church ever more radiant with grace and truth.
The Joy of Heaven website stands as a living archive of Father Bill’s reflections, theological papers, and pastoral writings. Its companion feature, Portals to Catholicism, offers a growing directory of trusted Catholic organizations—an online resource designed to “scatter the seeds of heaven” by connecting the faithful to spiritual and educational opportunities across the Church.
Rev. William E. Zimmer was born in Evanston, Illinois, and educated at St. Peter School in Skokie, Niles West High School, and the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. Before entering the seminary, he worked for a decade in the business world, earning his credentials as a Certified Public Accountant and completing graduate studies in Business Administration. In 1991, he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Father Bill brings together the analytical precision of his business background with the pastoral heart of a seasoned spiritual director. He has served the Church in many capacities—most notably through bilingual (English–Spanish) sacramental ministry, evangelization, and the pastoral promotion of Catholic education. His passion for sharing the Gospel has led him to develop creative approaches to evangelization, including outreach in Catholic school marketing and parish renewal.
A devoted world traveler, Father Bill accompanies multiple pilgrimages each year, providing spiritual direction, catechesis, and the sacraments to hundreds of pilgrims. His life was profoundly touched by an extraordinary experience in Medjugorje in 2011, which continues to shape his preaching and prayer. Those who have traveled with him often speak of his quiet wisdom, faith-filled humor, and his gift for helping pilgrims encounter the living presence of Christ and His Blessed Mother.
Father Bill’s ministry extends beyond the parish and pilgrimage routes. Through his Deliverance and Spiritual Warfare Ministry, he provides pastoral assistance and spiritual healing to those struggling under the weight of oppression or fear, always guided by the Church’s teaching and prayer. He is deeply devoted to the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet, which he prays daily for souls entrusted to his care.
Rooted in clarity and compassion, Father Bill combines intellectual rigor with the quiet gentleness of a true shepherd.
